Moosewood Art Studio Mission Statement

Moosewood Art Studio students will possess a high degree of visual literacy and intellectual curiosity about visual art and the creative process. It will be my focus to recognize, affirm and support a child’s emerging individuality, and help strengthen a child’s sense of self through art-making.

To achieve this mission Moosewood Art Studio will teach the following:

  • Students will create art that is inspired by famous and emerging artists’ work, experiment with different mediums and have fun, in a relaxed & professional studio environment.

  • Students will learn a combination of drawing skills and techniques. Drawing is the foundation for all visual art. An emphasis will be placed on personal exploration and creative growth, in a supportive atmosphere.

  • Students will learn the elements and principles of art making and be able to recognize these elements in principles in their own work, the work of their peers in the class, and the work of emerging and famous artists.

  • Students will learn the correct process of critiquing artwork.  They consist of the 4 steps: describe, analyze, interpret, and judgement.  Only after thorough exploration into these steps can a student understand what the artist’s meaning and reason is behind his/her work.
